Tudor Couple


This workshop covers a wide range of Tudor activites including the differing roles of men and women and the differing classes within Tudor society.

Here is a suggested programme:

The programme for the day could run as follows, depending on the timing of school days and breaks:

  • 7.30 Arrive and set up
  • 9.15 After assembly: Talk on Barber Surgeon and the Townsman
  • 10.00 Play time
  • 10.15 Workshop 1,
    1. Male Presentor: The Militia, Group 1,
    2. Female Presentor: Working in the Great Kitchen - food of the rich and poor.
    3. Assistant: Dance, Group 2,
    4. Teacher: Mummers Play, Group 3,
  • 10.50 Workshop 2,
    1. Male Presentor: Exploration and Colonisation, Group 3,
    2. Female Presentor: Making Cloth
    3. Assistant: Common-place book, Group 1,
    4. Teacher: Weights and measures, Group 2,
  • 11.25 Workshop 3,
    1. Male Presentor: The Husbandman, Group 1,
    2. Female Presentor: Making Clothes and Keeping them Clean

    This programme is based upon the willingness on the class teacher and an assistant being willing and able to run some of the workshops. A number of the workshops have been devised with this in mind. We will require the assistance of two members of staff to run the worshops devised for school staff - Dance, Mummers, Commonplace book and Weights and Measures.
